C M Weld : Mr. C. M. Weld, another man of remarkable energy and capacity, was an associate of Charles Page Perin. After Mr. Charles Perin was engaged for the geological work, C M Weld immediately came to India to carry the prospecting work for the iron ore.

Although C P Perin arrived in India only in 1904, major part of the iron prospecting was carried out by C M Weld along with Dorabji Tata and Shapurji Shaklatvala. The conditions were really harsh in those days but Mr. Weld carried on his work diligently. The heat in Central Provinces in April, May and June is intense. The prospectors were generally moving far from the railway, and sometimes had difficulty in obtaining food. Roads were few and indifferent. At one time, Mr. Weld was stricken with high fever, and marched 30 miles to the nearest railway station while his temperature was much above normal. But whrerever, he went, he made a careful geological examination of the locality, conducting his researches and with much minuteness and patience.

He had many curious experiences during the four years he spent in India at the instance of the Tatas, and should he ever have committed to them to paper, they would have formed a prose epic of prospecting.
